Delay is the time between the start and finish of an operation. For a visual system, delay refers to the interval from when the trigger pulse initiates camera exposure until processing is complete. The total delay in a visual system is the sum of delays introduced by each component within the system. Specifically in our visual system, these delays occur in the following scenarios: 1. The time between when an object reaches its designated position and when the corresponding trigger signal is generated; 2. The delay between the trigger pulse and the moment the camera begins exposure; 3. The camera’s exposure duration, plus, in the case of CCD cameras, the time required to transfer the exposed image into the charge-coupled device’s charge-transfer register; 4. The time it takes to send the captured image from the camera to the image card’s buffer.

Introduction to the Measurement Features of GOI, a Machine Vision Product

Our GOI system description mentions that it can measure dimensions, shapes, distances, and sizes—but can it also be used like calipers to precisely determine the dimensions and positional coordinates of parts? On the GOI, measurements of size and distance are calculated in pixel units. Once the resolution is clearly defined, we can accurately calculate the actual dimensions of the part. It’s important to note that when a camera captures a 3D object as a 2D image, measuring objects that aren’t perfectly flat becomes challenging. Similarly, using short-focus lenses may introduce inaccuracies, especially at the edges of the captured image. At its core, the image captured by the camera already represents a coordinate plane, with each point’s position relative to the origin precisely determined. And given the resolution, the exact coordinates of every point on that plane can be accurately mapped. The GOI’s measurement capabilities are similar to AOI’s measurement algorithms, but they cover a broader range of measurement tasks. Detailed descriptions of these measurement features can be found in the system’s comprehensive user manual.
